A workshop on emerging earth-cooling technologies was held March 4 at the Capitol in Bacolod City to advance knowledge and promote collaboration on innovative climate solutions that help mitigate global warming.
The activity, initiated by the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) College of Forestry and Natural Resources at the HOD Hall of the Capitol, was attended by representatives from concerned Capitol departments and offices, as well as representatives from Negrosanon Young Leaders, Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment, and other youth groups.
Led by Dr. Lorena Sabino, project leader of Pulse UPLB, the activity provided a platform for researchers and stakeholders to discuss new technologies, assess their feasibility and impacts, and strengthen science-based strategies that support sustainable environmental management and climate resilience.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that, as a province known for both its natural wealth and environmental challenges, the provincial government understands the delicate balance between innovation and precaution.
He added that it supports scientific inquiry and welcomes responsible research.
“Here in Negros Occidental, we believe development must focus on people. We are committed to evidence-based decisions, and climate-responsive governance is not optional; it is essential,” he said in a Capitol press release.
The governor also commended the UPLB Department of Social Forestry and Forest Governance and the Advanced Research and Invention Agency for initiating the activity, which strengthened the bridge between science and society. ||
