Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that civil works in the installation of the first prototype nationally-funded traffic lights system at the junction of E-Rovira to Leopoldo Rovira East Drive in Barangay Bantayan is about to be completed and will soon be energized.
Funded by the Department of Transportation, through the LTO Traffic Management Mentorship Program (TMMAP) Component B Traffic Signalization and Installation of Systems, this project involves the installation of four traffic signal controllers and signal heads, pedestrian light, traffic control panel, and vehicle detection cameras that can detect both stationary and moving vehicles.
Meanwhile, the budget for the locally-funded CCTV and Traffic Light Management System Project for 20 other identified intersections is still pending approval by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

These include 15 in urban areas and five at the Metro Dumaguete Diversion. The budget is included in the proposed 2025 annual budget of the city still pending before the SP.
The proposed CCTV and Traffic Lights System project for the 20 identified intersections will require 68 units of traffic light, signal timer, traffic flow cameras that can detect vehicles, and 20 signal controllers with fiber optic cables, the city said Feb. 13.
Remollo said that the proposed CCTV and traffic lights system is in line with efforts to improve the efficiency of traffic flow and promote public safety in Dumaguete. ||
