The Dumaguete City government allotted P11 million from the Special Education Fund for its delegation to the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVIRAA) Meet ongoing in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.
Dumaguete has a 757-strong delegation, composed of 455 athletes, 70 coaches, 17 assistant coaches, 10 chaperones, and 198 technical working committee members to the CVIRAA that opened March 12.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, with Schools Division Superintendent (SDS) Edmark Ian Cabio and assistant SDS Juditha Mapue, led the delegation during the opening ceremony as they aim to improve its second-place finish in last year’s sporting event.

As of 1:37 p.m. March 13, Dumaguete was Top 1 with 10 gold, 12 silver, and nine bronzes.
Remollo reaffirmed his commitment to provide the athletes, coaches, and other delegates with sufficient food supply, vitamins, full set of uniforms, medical personnel, security and transportation, so that they will be able to give their best and bring pride to all Dumagueteños, the city said.
Dumaguete’s best athletes, who topped their respective sports events during the City Meet in February, are competing in athletics, arnis, archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiards, bocce, boxing, chess, dancesport, football, futsal, goal ball, gymnastics, tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, and wushu.
Remollo expressed confidence that the athletes will perform better and will continue to be safe as they compete to earn impressive victories in honor of their schools, families, and the City of Dumaguete.
Dumaguete trailed behind host Cebu City in the 2024 CVIRAA Meet among 20 divisions, and brought home 41 gold, 33 silver, and 38 bronze medals.
This year, the goal is clear: to surpass, or at the very least, maintain the previous ranking in the medal tally, the city said. ||
