Yeongdong-gun Mayor Jeong Young Chul of South Korea and Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo of the Philippines pledged to enhance the sisterhood ties between the two cities to promote relations and programs on agriculture, culture, education, and tourism.
In a conference held at the Dumaguete City Hall recently, Remollo said that the ongoing seasonal farm workers training program has provided livelihood opportunities for almost 200 families and acquire new skills in agriculture.
He underscored the need for concerned officials to ensure that the welfare of the worker-trainees will remain a priority.
Mayor Chul said he appreciates the contributions of the farm trainees from Dumaguete City in the agricultural development of Yeongdong and reiterated the strong resolve of his administration to further enhance the friendly relations of the two cities and student exchange.
Yeongdong-gun is a known producer of quality grapes with high sugar content and sweet aroma, and is home to the best wineries in South Korea, the city said.
A team of students and teachers, meanwhile, joined the conference as part of the youth exchange program to showcase the traditional music and art of South Korea to the Filipino audience.
Among the Dumaguete officials present were councilors Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, Jose Baldado, Rey Lyndon Lawas, and Franklin Esmeña Jr., City Administrator Lilani Ramon, assistant city administrator Dr. Dinno Depositario, department heads, and some of the seasonal farm workers/trainees.
The 22-member delegation from Yeongdong included bureau director Seong Sei Jei, Yu Kun Man, Kim Hyung Woo, Nam Hui Jin, Agricultural Cooperative Federation president Shon Suk Joo, councilors Lee Dae Ho, Lee Seung Joo, Kim Yeong Seong, and Kim Bong, and County Council chairman Shin Hyun Kwang, among others. ||
