Top officials of the Bureau of Trademarks of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (BOT-IPOPHL) held a dialogue with key city officials to explore strategies on how to enhance Dumaguete City’s brand image.
The team from BOT-IPOPHL, led by Atty. Jesus Antonio Ros, met with City Administrator Lilani Ramon, representing Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, City Tourism Office OIC Katherine Therese Aguilar, and City Planning and Development officer Leonides Caro, and exchanged ideas on how to develop the brand of the city, being consistent with its image, potentials, and its people.
Dumaguete is popularly known as a “City of Gentle People”, a “University Town”, “Best Place to Retire”, and as an “Emerging Sports Tourism Destination” in the Philippines.
There is also a need to campaign for and encourage entrepreneurs and local producers to register their trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets before the IPOPHL to protect their intellectual rights, and ensure the safety and quality of their products with the Department of Trade and Industry, the city said Nov. 21.
Also present during the dialogue were lawyers Chester Cinco, Irma Morcillo, Marites Salviejo, and Ruth Tan, all officers of the Bureau of Trademarks, as well as Arnold Rilloraza, Nely Eder, Rolan Leaño, and Leah Alire. ||
