Qualified senior citizens from 30 barangays of Dumaguete have started receiving their quarterly pension at P3,000 each, covering the last quarter of 2024, or for October to December.
The distribution was held at the City Evacuation Center in Barangay Talay Thursday and Friday last week.
Beneficiaries yet to claim their social pensions can visit the City Treasurer’s Office so they can receive the benefit.
There are 3,067 beneficiaries of the social pension in Dumaguete, as identified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Office 7, the city said.
City Social Welfare and Development officer Lilibeth Filipinas said the criteria of the DSWD Region 7 in choosing eligible elderly to receive the social pension, are as follows: must be 60 years old and above; not receiving any pension or survivorship pension; not receiving financial support from children, especially from abroad; those who have medical maintenance; and are among the indigent residents of the barangay, especially those who are bedridden.
The number of beneficiaries may increase if Dumaguete City will be granted additional slots or allocation from the national government, through the DSWD, based on the approved budget.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo has instructed the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs and the City Social Welfare and Development Office to ensure a safe and orderly distribution of the social pension to the elderly. ||
