The newly-dredged portion of Tamburong Creek in Barangay Biak na Bato, La Castellana, Negros Occidental was again flattened by volcanic sediments following heavy rains on Sept. 11.
Incident Management Team commander Remuel Lajo on Friday (Sept. 12) urged the fast tracking of the clearing and immediate hauling of volcanic materials so these will not return to the creek during heavy rains.
Almost 1,000 cubic meters of volcanic materials were already extracted from the creek as of Sept. 10.
An estimated 28,000 cubic meters of volcanic debris are set to be removed from the creek to prevent flooding.
The muddy stream flowed through the creek without overflowing on Thursday.
After the rain stopped, the clearing operation at the creek immediately resumed, Lajo said.
With the intervention of Negros Occidental Fifth District Rep. Emilio Bernardino Yulo, Lajo said he believes the Department of Public Works and Highways may be convinced to extend help in the clearing operation. | GB
