Jiu jitsu master extraordinaire, Dr. Sunny “Pin” Diego, continues to rack up medals and belts abroad, this time winning the Medium Heavyweight Master 4 Black Belt in the IBJJF Sacramento Open 2023.
His team Alliance also bagged First Place in the overall standings in the Gi and No Gi in the same tournament, held at SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Sacramento, California, recently.
Dr. Pin, born in Bacolod City, and an alumnus of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, has proven over and over again that he is really putting Negros Island on the map when it comes to jiu jitsu. He brought continuous honor and pride to Negrenses and Filipinos.
He said he shares his latest achievement with his wife, Hannah, his mother, Dr. Crispina Diego, and his mother-in-law, Susan Robles. “And, of course, to all my students who have been loyal to my leadership. To God be the glory!”
Dr. Pin, head instructor and owner of two Alliance Jiu Jitsu academies in Inland Empire, California, said he wants to continue to be an inspiration to many people in Negros Island and the Philippines, and to all Pinoys around the world.
“Results are more important than intentions. And that actions are more important than words,” he said.
Dr. Pin recently became the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Phoenix Open 2023 Black Belt Master 4 Medium Heavyweight Champion, and Absolute Bronze Medalist, also in the same competition.
He had won multiple championships in Jiu Jitsu over the years, and a victor in each belt rank, from white to blue, purple, brown, and ultimately the black belt. He managed to win in six divisions – in rooster, light-featherweight, featherweight, light weight, middle weight, and medium heavyweight – throughout his career.
Dr. Pin held three Pan American championships, two American Nationals championships, and has two bronze medals at the IBJJF World Masters.
He had competed in Europe, especially Italy and France, and won multiple awards and medals across the United States of America through the years that he has been competing. ||
