The Department of Public Works and Highways said it completed three road projects, worth P33 million, in three areas of Negros Occidental.
More motorists going to various destinations in Silay City can now be accommodated with the widened Silay-Lantawan Road, worth P14-million, the DPWH said, adding that this project involves the widening from two to four lanes of the 374-lane meter portion of Silay-Lantawan Road, which is an entry point to several destinations in the province.
DPWH6 regional director Sanny Boy Oropel said the widened road will help facilitate mobility for people and goods, provide a more convenient travel, reduce travel time from one point to another, and ensure the cost-efficient delivery of products, from farms to the market.
“This road improvement will significantly improve tourism development in the province as better road condition will encourage more visitors to magnificent destinations, hence, would help improve economic condition of the people in the area,” Oropel added in a statement.
The project was undertaken by the DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office.
Widening the lanes on a bend can reduce the risk of head-on crashes, by giving drivers more room to get around the bend without crossing into the opposing lane; this will improve safety, especially for larger vehicles, OIC district engineer Dene Baldonado Jr. said.
Farmers, meanwhile, can now transport their goods more easily, with the completion of a vital road paving project in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City.
Undertaken by the DPWH NegOcc 2nd DEO, the P9.6-million project involved the concreting of a 379-lineal meter Portland Cement Concrete Pavement, with shoulder and slope protection in selected areas, and ensures that motorists enjoy a smooth and convenient travel experience.
District engineer Marivic Roldan said that with the newly-constructed road, farmers can now convey their products conveniently to neighboring towns and cities. “This road enhances connectivity and contributes to the overall economic growth of the community in Barangay Buenavista.”
The DPWH NegOcc 3rd DEO also completed the paving of a 468.5-meter, two-lane, farm-to-market road in Barangay Mambusan, Cauayan.
Oropel said that farmers and other crop growers in the area will no longer experience muddy or dusty roads, allowing them to quickly and safely deliver their products from farms to major markets and neighboring towns at a lower hauling cost.
Costing P10 million, other works on the project included the provision of permanent monuments and markers, and grouted riprap for protection and road stability, the DPWH said. ||
