Expect more road and drainage constructions as the Department of Public Works and Highways Bacolod City District Engineering Office awarded more than P300 million in contracts last month.
Biggest of these projects, at more than P48 million each, include the construction/improvement of access roads at junction Hernaez Street to Bangga Vista Alegre Road in support of the micro food processing industry in Brgy. Vista Alegre; and access roads leading to Barangay Handumanan.
Contracts were also awarded and accepted by winning bidders for preventive maintenance/asphalt overlay, and off-carriage improvements, among others, as per the post-contract award disclosure of the agency’s Bids and Awards Committee Feb. 1.
Bacolod DEO District Engineer Abraham Villareal, in his letter to the Sangguniang Panlungsod Jan. 16, said that about P600 million in roads, revetments, and bridge projects are still ongoing in the highly-urbanized city, as of December 2023.
The SP has required the DPWH to submit a monthly report of the status of physical accomplishment of ongoing/completed projects in Bacolod.
As per Villareal’s report, ongoing projects with substantial allocation include the construction of revetment with floodwall, including improvement of riverbank with esplanade along the Magsungay River, P100 million; another revetment with floodwall and riverbank improvement project along Sum-ag River, also P100 million, and at Loygoy River, P95 million;
