The Bacolod Bureau of Fire Protection has urged the public to not leave children and other vulnerable family members alone at home.

The call was made following two fire incidents that claimed the lives of three children in Bacolod last week.

The first was on May 20 in Barangay 1 where two children, aged six and eight years old, died inside their home in Purok Lison. The other was on May 24 in Brgy. Mandalagan, where a one-year-old also died.

“These heartbreaking events serve as a painful reminder that lives can be lost in seconds. Please take every precaution,” the BFP said in a statement May 25.

“Do not leave them unattended,” the BFP said, referring to children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable family members.

It also urged everyone to ensure that their home is fire-safe, to report fire hazards, and always keep emergency numbers ready. “This is a call to action for all Bacolodnons. Let’s prevent another tragedy. Let us protect our loved ones.” | CGC
