All in-person classes in public elementary and secondary schools nationwide, including in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, will shift to blended learning modalities on Oct. 5 for the World Teacher’s Day celebration, and on Oct. 31 and Nov. 5.
The memorandum, issued by Atty. Michael Wesley Poa, Department of Education undersecretary and chief of staff, includes classes in community learning centers of the Alternative Learning System.
This is “to allow teachers to participate in activities in celebration of World Teachers’ Day on Oct. 5, and to give them ample time to complete election-related duties for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on Oct. 30”, Poa said.
The DepEd Schools Division in Negros Occidental, meanwhile, said teachers will receive P1,000 each as World Teachers’ Day incentive bonus.
Schools Division superintendent Anthony Liobet, in Memorandum 774 dated Sept. 29, said the cash incentive will be received by “all persons engaged in classroom teaching, in any level of instruction, on full-time basis, including guidance counselors, school librarians, industrial arts or vocational instructors, and all other persons performing supervisory and/or administrative functions in all schools, colleges, and universities operated by the government or its political subdivisions”.
But school nurses, school physicians, school dentists, and other school employees are excluded from this grant, as well as public school teachers, “who are on absence without official leave (AWOL) as of Oct. 5, 2023, those who are found guilty of any offense in connection with their work and meted penalty in the previous school year, and those no longer in service, as of Oct. 5.” | CGC
