Dengue-related deaths in Negros Occidental rose to 27, as cases are now up by 1,008 percent, or from 357 in January to Aug. 27 last year, to 3,956 cases in the same period this year, records from the Provincial Health Office show.
Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, however, said they noted a steady decline of dengue cases in the past four weeks, which went down to 85, based on the PHO Morbidity Week 34 report.
It also recorded three more dengue deaths, increasing the fatality count to 27, as of Aug. 27.
PHO records further showed that the dengue attack rate in Negros Occidental is 150.82 cases per 100,000 population, with La Carlota City having the highest attack rate at 46.8 percent per 100,000 of its total population.
Clustering of dengue cases was also reported in 119 barangays of Negros Occidental, while Himamaylan City logged the highest number of total cases at 341, and Pontevedra with the highest total increase at 5,166 percent./GB
