Dengue-related deaths in Negros Occidental, including the highly-urbanized Bacolod City, has risen to nine as cases further increased to 1,984 as of April 5.
Of the nine fatalities, two were recorded in Bacolod City, and one each in the cities of Bago, Silay and San Carlos as well as in Isabela, Murcia, Ilog and Manapla towns.
Negros Occidental recorded a total of 1,603 dengue cases from January 1 to April 5, with an increase of 381.38 percent compared to 1,270 cases for the same period last year.
Bacolod City posted an increase of 155.1 percent in dengue cases, from 188 cases with zero death last year to 301 cases this year.
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson reminded the public to have themselves checked by a doctor, especially when they experience symptoms as it may be a dengue fever.
Bago City continues to top the list of local government units with the most number of dengue cases at 320. | GB
