Dengue cases in WV down 59%

Dengue cases in Western Visayas have breached the 6,000-mark, as of Nov. 18, but still 59 percent lower than the more than 14,000 cases logged for the same period last year, the Department of Health 6 said.

The DOH Western Visayas Center for Health Development-Dengue and Malaria Program said Nov. 24 that based on the Nov. 12-18 monitoring, there were 142 newly-reported dengue cases in the region, bringing the total to 6,013, or 59 percent lower compared to 14,640 cases in the same period in 2022.

Aklan logged the highest number of newly-reported cases with 34, for a total of 995 cases since the start of this year until Nov. 18. Iloilo City trailed with 32 new infections, or 906 total cases; and Iloilo Province, 30 new cases and 1,395 total infections, the DOH6 said.

The highly-urbanized Bacolod City logged eight new cases, as of Week 46, for a total of 521 since Jan. 1, with three deaths.

Negros Occidental reported 14 new infections, for a total of 939 cases, and still with seven deaths, the health department added.
