Dengue cases in Negros Occidental have been gradually declining from its peak in July this year, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ma. Girlie Pinongan said on Friday (Sept. 5).
A similar trend is taking place in highly-urbanized Bacolod City, according to the City Health Office.
Despite the downward trend, Pinongan called on the Negrenses not to lower their vigilance, urging them to maintain cleanliness of their surroundings since the rainy season is still on.
She attributed the declining cases to public awareness on how to avoid being infected, early detection, and the continuing information dissemination campaign.
From January to Aug. 30 this year, the Provincial Health Office recorded 4,296 cases, including nine deaths, with an increase of 9.26 percent or 364 cases from last year.
Pinongan said that Bago City remains on the top of the list with cases 1,017.
Bacolod City logged 754 dengue cases, with five probable deaths, from January to Aug. 23 this year.
The cases reduced by 26.7 percent compared to 1,029 cases in the same period last year. | GB
