‘Deception’

The screens sizzle anew as former real-life twosome, actors Claudine Barretto and Mark Anthony Fernandez, team up once again in another Vivamax original movie, “Deception,” by ace director Joel Lamangan. Currently streaming on Vivamax after its successful initial run on January 28, the movie has somehow proven that the luster and magic of the Claudine-Mark Anthony love team in the ‘90s has withstood the test of time.

In the digital media conference four days before its live stream premiere, both Claudine and Mark were not coy in admitting that they have matured a lot “now that we’re 40 (years old).” Asked if they are currently in a relationship, both remarked that “no, we’re both unattached.”

When the entertainment press persisted in satisfying their curiosity about the two lead stars, Mark said: “As of now, I think Claudine and I are both fine with our lives. Perhaps, let’s give it another two to three years, and let’s see what happens next.”

“Deception” is co-produced by Viva Films top honcho Vic del Rosario and lawyer-turned-first-time-movie producer Ferdinand Topacio’s Borracho Film Production, whose name has been in the limelight lately as the legal counsel of the beleaguered Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation, who is behind the procurement of CoViD-19 supplies transacted with the government.

“I did not have second thoughts about investing in the movie. All the aces are in this movie – from director Joel Lamangan to the team-up of very good actors Claudine and Mark Anthony. We waited for Claudine for this movie,” gushed Topacio, whose enthusiasm was infectious.

As their first comeback project after 25 years, was it smooth sailing for them both in terms of doing their scenes and other adjustments, especially that this is an entirely new setup now (locked in shooting and all)?

“It was kinda awkward initially, but later on, we were both able to adjust. But, I had to bring my kids with me during the shooting as I could not be away from them for a long time,” Claudine recalled, whose first time it is to work before the cameras again after a six-year break.

“Deception” is a drama-mystery film that tells the story of Rose (Claudine Barretto) a famous actress, and Jericho (Mark Anthony Fernandez) a stunt double, who fell in love and got married. As they start their own family, they are blessed with a son and named him Thomas. From the looks of it, it was already a perfect life filled with love, but what could have been a promising future for their family starts spiraling down after Rose became convicted for killing her husband and was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment. With Rose in prison and Jericho’s death, their son is taken to an orphanage and learns to live without his parents.

As Rose’s time in prison ends, she tries to start her life anew. She starts to look for and try to reconnect with her estranged son, who is now a teenager. But, her troubled past starts to catch up with her and reveals all the lies that go with it. She also soon finds out why her almost perfect life went crumbling down.
