The Bacolod City Police Office logged 87 crime incidents in May, or a decrease of 32 cases equivalent to 26.89 percent, compared to the 119 incidents in the same month last year.

Of the 87 incidents, 66 were peace and order index while 21 were tagged as public safety index.

A significant drop in the index crimes, or the so-called Eight Focus Crimes, was also noted, at 16 incidents from 24 last year, or equivalent to 33.33 percent.

The non-index crimes also dropped from 95 to 71, or 25.26 percent, the BCPO records show.

P/Lt. Col. Sherlock Gabana, BCPO information officer, said there was a decrease in the overall Crime Solution Efficiency, from 94.12 percent in 2021 to 68.97 percent in the same period this year.

“However, it surpassed the BCPO target, set at 66.41 percent by the higher office,” Gabana said, adding that the Average Monthly Crime Rate (AMCR) decreased by 26.89 percent, or from 19.45 in May 2021 to 14.22 last month.

The decrease in crime incidents can be attributed to the intensified police initiated operations and crime prevention measures conducted by the various units of the BCPO, he said.

The regular conduct of Enhanced Managing Police Operations also helped in addressing and implementing appropriate and target-specific interventions in the reduction of crime incidents, he said.

BCPO director, P/Col. Thomas Joseph Martir, has continuously been reminding the PNP personnel to step up the fight against all forms of criminality. “Crime prevention has always been a top priority of the BCPO as it continues to make Bacolod more peaceful and orderly.”

Meanwhile, 501 violators were arrested during a weeklong simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operations, dubbed “Birada Semana”, from May 23 to 29, of the Police Regional Office 6.

Of the 501 violators, 267 are wanted persons, 67 for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, six for violation of RA 10591, or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, and 161 for illegal gambling.

Out of the 267 wanted persons accounted for in 251 police operations regionwide, 224 and 43 were classified as other wanted persons and most wanted persons, respectively.

On the campaign against illegal drugs, 385 grams of suspected shabu and 8.3 grams of marijuana, all valued at P2.62 million, were confiscated from 67 suspects, the PRO 6 said.

Six were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, while 157 guns and 26 explosives were either surrendered or deposited to different police units across the region.

On the campaign against illegal gambling, 161 persons were arrested in 50 operations that yielded P28,739 in bet money.

“Birada Semana” is PRO6’s initiative to sustain efforts in accomplishing targets through deliberate and sustained police operations, PRO-6 chief, P/Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo said as he congratulated all PNP personnel in the region for the accomplishment.

“This shows that PRO6 is serious in cleansing our communities from the peril of criminality and menace of illegal drugs. And we will not stop from here; instead, we will keep on intensifying our operations and conduct new strategies to improve our endeavors,” he added. /CGC
