COVID hits Mayor Lizares, too

Another mayor of Negros Occidental, who attended the Love Negros fellowship meeting on Sept. 18 in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, also tested positive for COVID-19.

Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares said Sept. 21 on his social media account that he, too, got infected with the virus.

Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco tested positive for COVID Sept. 19. The city Public Information Office said Sept. 21 that his condition is stable and there are no signs of complications.

He is currently undergoing isolation as required under protocol directives, the PIO said, as it thanked the public for the concerns and prayers, and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Lizares said he is asymptomatic.

“I would like to reassure everyone that I am taking every step possible to ensure that I stay in good health and will recover successfully from the virus,” he added.

Lizares called for prayers for the fast recovery of all COVID-19 infected persons in Talisay City, and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated and continue to follow mandated health protocols.

The Talisay City Health Office logged 220 active COVID-19 cases, as of Sept. 21, while Kabankalan City recorded 167 active infections, as of Sept. 20.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and other Love Negros members, who attended the fellowship, are now in isolation, pending their RT-PCR testing on Sept. 23. — GB
