Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 and is due for release today from a private hospital in Bacolod City, his staff said.

She said the mayor had sore throat and mild fever last week.

“But the mayor is okay now,” she stressed.

Palanca tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 4, a day after he took an RT-PCR test at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

Palanca, who was confined for four days at a private hospital, is the third mayor of Negros Occidental to be infected by COVID-19.

The two others, EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon and Pontevedra Mayor Jose Maria Alonso, have already recovered.

Palanca, the president of the Association of Chief Executives in Negros Occidental, will undergo a 14-day quarantine, to ensure his full recovery.

Two other Negros Occidental board members, Andrew Montelibano and Samson Mirhan, also earlier tested positive for COVID-19, and had since recovered. -GPB
