Cops nab 176 illegal gambling suspects in 48-hr operations

Police arrested 176 suspects allegedly involved in illegal gambling in Negros Occidental, including in the highly-urbanized Bacolod City, in a 48-hour campaign that started Sept. 6.

Of the violators, 133 were accounted for by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and 43 others by the Bacolod City Police Office.

Of the arrested violators in Negros Occidental, P/Lt. Judesses Catalogo, provincial police spokesman, said one is an illegal gambling operator and 132 others were bettors.

In a statement, Catalogo noted that “tong-its” is the most prevalent among the types of illegal gambling subjected to police operations, with 18 incidents, followed by the illegal operations of  the Small Town Lottery (STL), and other forms of illegal gambling.

P/Lt. Col. Sherlock Gabana, spokesperson of the BCPO, meanwhile, reported that the arrest of the 43 illegal gambling violators in Bacolod yielded P4,701 in cash bets./GB
