A building contractor incurred an estimated P5.2-million losses after a fire hit its residential condominium project at the Megaworld’s The Upper in Bacolod City on Thursday.

Initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) showed the fire broke out almost noon and placed under control about 30 minutes after.

The blaze damaged the third and fifth floors of the condominium project, but no one was reported hurt.

BFP investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire.

In a statement, contractor MRK Construction said the fire broke out at 11:42 a.m. at a portion of the third and fourth floor levels of the construction site, and fire authorities declared a fire out at 12:34 p.m.

“The building is still under the responsibility of our company, and we are closely coordinating with the developer, Megaworld, as well as with the local fire authorities, as to what caused the fire,” the contractor said.

“We will cooperate in the investigation of this incident,” it added.

In December last year, a fire also hit the warehouse of Multitrade Corp., also at The Upper East, with damage estimated at P14 million. | GB
