The construction of a new bridge connecting barangays Candau-ay and Balugo in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, is ongoing.

The bridge will replace the old spillway at the former dumpsite that was closed in March 2021, the city said.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that this fourth locally-funded concrete bridge will help ensure that motorists and residents will remain safe even during heavy rains when the waters of the Banica River swell or cause floods, affecting households along the riverbank.

Residents in the two barangays thanked Remollo and the city government for the closure of the dumpsite in March 2021, the road concreting of the access road, and the construction of a new full span concrete bridge connecting the two villages.

Remollo said the Candau-ay-Balugo Bridge and the Batinguel-Junob Bridge, which is also under construction, will significantly help in the reduction of traffic congestion in the central business district.

His administration funded the construction of five concrete bridges.

The first two completed bridges are situated at the back of Foundation University and another near the BIR in Barangay Taclobo, while the budget for the fifth bridge linking Poblacion 8-Barangay Tabuc-tubig, worth P30 million, has been approved and will soon be implemented. ||
