Bacolod City Commission on Elections registrar Atty. Kathrina Triño Caña said they will hold satellite registration next month to prevent long queues in front of the COMELEC office in San Juan Street.
She said the date and venue will be announced once the requirements, set by the local Emergency Operations Center and the Inter-Agency Task Force, are completed.
Caña acknowledged the complaints aired by several applicants who endured the long queue in front of the COMELEC office.
She said the Office of the Sanguniang Kabataan and University of St. La Salle, which requested for satellite registration, need to have at least 200 participants for the one-day registration.
The Bacolod COMELEC office presently operates on a 50 percent capacity due to the spike of COVID-19 cases in the city.
Caña said that those who wanted to be prioritized should book an appointment online.
She added that they can accommodate 50 online appointments daily but there are times when only a few actually appeared at the office.
The COMELEC attended to 1,830 clients last week, with their concerns varying from new application, transfer of registration, correction of entry, and activation of name in the voter’s list, Caña said. — MML
