The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has registered 6,858 voter applicants in Negros Island Region for five days from Oct. 20 to 25.

Negros Occidental topped the list with 4,751 registrants, followed by Negros Oriental – 1,961; and Siquijor – 146.

In Negros Occidental, 990 voter applicants were recorded in the sixth district.

Others are in the second district – 551; first district – 548; third district – 465; fifth district – 432; fourth district – 381; and Bacolod City lone district – 1,393.

Seven residents of Bacolod City took advantage of the Comelec’s Register Anywhere Program, an initiative allowing eligible voters to enroll outside their home precincts for convenience.

The registration of new voters will end in July next year.

Eligible applicants include Filipino citizens aged 18 and above, permanent residents of their respective voting precincts for at least six months before the election, and those who have not yet registered as voters.

The Comelec-Negros Island Region advised applicants to bring valid identification documents to speed up their registration process. | GB
