The Commission on Elections (Comelec) registered 1,371 voter applicants in Negros Occidental in the first two days of voter registration on Oct. 20 and 21.

Records showed 708 registered on the first day while 663 others followed on Tuesday.

Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said on Wednesday (Oct. 22) the voter registration will continue while they are awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) on a petition declaring Republic Act 12232 as unconstitutional.

Such law sets the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) on Nov. 2 next year.

Originally, the BSKE polls is slated on Dec. 1 this year.

While there is no decision yet from the SC, the law setting the next BSKE in November next year remains valid, Ananoria said.

Of the registrants, the 1st district recorded 138;  2nd district – 199; 3rd district and 4th district – 135 each;  5th district – 188; 6th district – 211; Bacolod City lone district – 365.

Comelec records also showed that four individuals availed of the Register Anywhere Program in Bacolod City. | GB
