The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) held its 17th Recognition and Thanksgiving Celebration Sept. 18 at the SMX Convention Center in Bacolod City.
This year’s celebration, on the theme “His love endures forever (Psalm 118)”, honored civil engineers, who passed the November 2025 and March 2026 Civil Engineer licensure examinations. The gathering was also held as a send-off for the takers of the March 2027 CELE.
In his welcome remarks, Engr. Russel Dela Torre, vice president for Academic Affairs, congratulated the College of Engineering, its faculty and staff, and the newly-recognized board passers for their achievement.
Engr. Grace Gerona, College of Engineering dean, reaffirmed the program’s commitment to public safety, integrity, service, and ethical principles in the practice of civil engineering.
Gerona also urged the CHMSU alumni to “uphold honesty and integrity amid ongoing controversies surrounding the profession,” a press release said.
Meanwhile, Engr. Geronemo Gotera III, BSCE Program chairperson, encouraged incoming examinees to draw inspiration from this year’s passers as they prepare for the March 2027 licensure examination.
The event also featured congratulatory and testimonial messages, a parents’ message of gratitude and pride, and the challenge to the graduating class, capping off an afternoon of recognition and thanksgiving for the university’s civil engineering community.
The thanksgiving event proper was preceded by a solemn worship and prayer for the honorees by Rev. Armando Kole.
In the March 2026 CELE, 37 graduates passed the board exam, earning a 94.74 percent passing rate for first-time takers and an 84.09 percent overall passing rate for the university.
In the November 2025 CELE, CHMSU had 21 passers, with the university garnering a 95.45 percent passing rate for first-time takers and a 91.30 percent overall passing rate. ||
