Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) garnered 12 distinctions from the Commission on Higher Education-Negros Island Region during the 1st CHED Regional Quality Awards at the Luce Auditorium, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, May 30.
Assistant vice president for Academic Affairs, Ma. Riza Manalo, director for Research and Development Services Ricky Acanto, deputy director for Research Ethics Review Ivy Aboy, and University secretary Mary Leanne Laganhon received all 12 awards for CHMSU from CHED-NIR director Raul Alvarez.
CHED-NIR’s inaugural quality awards was held in celebration of the 5th National Higher Education Day and the 31st CHED Founding Anniversary, the CHMSU said in a press release June 2.


The university earned recognition for joining the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance as an associate member, and for securing a spot in the top 100 globally across three categories in the World University Rankings for Innovation.
It was also commended as one of the SUCs with 100 percent Certificate of Program Compliance for its undergraduate and graduate programs.
CHMSU also received awards for Excellence in Peace Education, Excellence in the National Service Training Program, Excellence in Research, and Excellence in Internationalization Initiatives.
The university was also awarded as a Model Implementer of the Scholarships for Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program.
CHED also recognized CHMSU for its performance in professional licensure examinations.
The university previously ranked 6th among top-performing schools in the September 2024 Licensure Examination for Teachers (elementary), 7th in the March 2025 LEPT (secondary), and an impressive 2nd place in the November–December 2024 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination.
The university also received special recognition for its active support of CHED-NIR’s programs, activities, and projects.
The CHED Regional Quality Awards highlighted the outstanding contributions of higher education institutions in the newly-established administrative region. ||
