The camp of former Senate president Francis “Chiz” Escudero has filed with the Commission on Elections Oct. 14 a counter-affidavit on the P30-million campaign donation he received from a contractor in 2022.
“Our position is clear: the donation was legal, fully declared, and follows long-standing practice,” Atty. Ramon Esguerra, Escudero’s legal counsel, stressed in a statement.
“The law is on our side, and we are confident that Comelec will find no fault,” Esguerra said, adding they filed their submission early in respect to the Comelec process, and to explain their side.
The manifestation with entry of appearance was filed in line with Comelec’s motu proprio investigation for violation of the Omnibus Election Code, with a meeting scheduled today, Oct. 15, by the Commission’s Political Finance and Affairs Department.
Escudero’s camp has been firm that the campaign donation followed Comelec’s existing rules and regulations, and was declared in accordance with the principles of transparency and public accountability.
Esguerra said they are open and ready to cooperate with the Commission, adding the submission of the counter-affidavit is a step towards a speedy and fair clarification of the issue. ||
