Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the turnover of veterinary facilities and livestock to beneficiary LGUs Jan. 28 at the Capitol in Bacolod City, aimed at enhancing animal health management and improving overall livestock production.

Nine units of dummy sows for artificial insemination (AI), under the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program, were distributed to beneficiaries to enhance the operation of Swine AI Centers established by the province in various LGUs.

Two boars were given to the cities of San Carlos and Sagay to augment the AI breeding operation extended to backyard swine raisers in these areas, while 11 grower female pigs were distributed to swine raisers of the Ilimnan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries of Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Toboso, Manapla, and Calatrava.

With access to veterinary services, LGUs can support the prevention and treatment of animal diseases, promote better breeding practices, and ensure that livestock are healthy and productive, the Capitol said in a press release.

Veterinary facilities also help manage livestock welfare, reduce animal mortality, and increase the quality of agricultural products for local markets, thereby boosting farm productivity, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and ensuring food security.

Meanwhile, 10 motorcycle units were given to the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) to assist in the conduct of animal health monitoring, disease surveillance, emergency and quick response, as well as damage assessment, under the Provincial Animal Biosecurity Program, during the turnover ceremony also attended by Board Members Andrew Montelibano and Manuel Frederick Ko, and provincial veterinarian, Dr. Placeda Lemana. ||
