The Negros Occidental provincial government has partnered with the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) to establish extension and research collaboration and linkage in various areas of cooperation.
Through the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC), the province commits to work with TUP Visayas, based in Talisay City, as provided in the memorandum of understanding signed between Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and TUP president Reynaldo Ramos at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City Jan. 7.
“We’re very happy to have this collaboration,” Lacson said.

NOLITC vocational school administrator Ma. Cristina Orbecido said in an interview Jan. 8 that they will collaborate with the state university in the areas of robotics and IT.
“We will partner with TUPV in implementing programs that will support robotics and automation. We will have trainings for faculty and students starting this year,” she added.
Under the MOU, the collaboration and linkage will be implemented through a series of knowledge and technical transfer training, seminars, workshops, and other related activities that will contribute to the fostering and development of the cooperative relationship between the two organizations.
TUP also has extension and research activities, such as adopt-a-project and livelihood projects, lecture series, sports and cultural affairs, and gender and development programs.
“Both parties commit to establishing and defining the understanding between them in respect to research and extension collaboration and linkage,” the MOU stated.
Once developments progress to the program delivery stage, a detailed memorandum of agreement will be executed by all parties.
The Bacolod-based NOLITC, a technical-vocational education and training provider recognized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, offers competency-based programs, particularly in the information and communications technology and language sectors. | PNA
