In a major push to accelerate agricultural recovery and enhance local farmer livelihoods, the Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary Office distributed 849 heads of livestock and poultry alongside 15 units of specialized support equipment valued at P1.289 million on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Led by Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana, the initiative falls under the province’s Swine Industry Recovery Initiatives and Animal Genetic Improvement and Livelihood Programs.

The program aims to rebuild animal productivity and expand income streams for qualified individual farmers, agricultural associations, and institutional partners.

The comprehensive distribution included a diverse allocation of poultry, swine, and specialized equipment, including  500 two-week-old chicks, 100 Rhode Island Red  chicks, 150 Itik Pinas, 54 female piglets, 32 castrated piglets, one uncastrated piglet, 10 sows/gilts, as well as  15 dummy sows assigned to artificial inseminators and designated breeding centers.

The turn-over of weaners held at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City forms a core part of the province’s long-term swine recovery strategy, as beneficiaries will raise them into breeding sows to accelerate local herd build-up.

Additionally, the 15 dummy sows will strengthen the province’s swine artificial insemination Initiative, enhancing breeding efficiency and genetic quality across local facilities.

Supporting broader agricultural goals, two male ruminants were loaned to institutional partners promoting integrated organic farming, providing operational support ahead of upcoming regional delegate visits.

All distributed animals were sourced directly from the provincial government’s key facilities — the Negros First Ranch and the Provincial Livestock Breeding Center and Dairy Farm. ||
