The provincial government of Negros Occidental is pursuing water permits for future projects after Silay City rejected its P1.2-billion bulk water supply proposal involving the Imbang River.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said on Monday, March 2 the province continues to comply with all the legal requirements relative to the issuance of water permits as these may be necessary in the future.

“People in government change. Basi lain naman sa Silay (Maybe it will be different also in Silay) who will realize the importance of the project, and approve it. Then, the legal requirements are ready,” Diaz said.

The provincial government is entertaining the possibility of continuing the proposed bulk water supply project by tapping the water surface of Malogo River in E.B. Magalona town although in a smaller scale.

“Nothing is really wasted. Don’t feel bad about it because we are just doing everything for the good of Negrenses,” Diaz said.

He added that they can pursue the project through Malogo River if Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson says it’s a go in a smaller scale design.

“I hope we still have time to implement it because this is one of the legacy projects that Governor Lacson wants before he steps down,” Diaz said. | GB
