The provincial government of Negros Occidental and National University (NU) Bacolod signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of AMLIG, or Accelerating the Mission of Learning and Inclusive Growth, scholarship program.
As per the MOA signed at NU Bacolod March 13 by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and NU Philippines president and CEO, Dr. Renato Carlos Ermita Jr., the AMLIG scholarship targets to provide college education to deserving first-year students, who are interested in pursuing a four-year course at the institution.
Lacson said the AMLIG scholarship is more than a formal partnership with NU Bacolod. “It is proof of the shared vision of empowering young Negrenses through education.”

“Through this partnership, we are not only opening doors to higher education but also paving the way for a brighter future for our youth, particularly those in the countryside who might otherwise have limited access to such opportunities,” the governor said in a Capitol press release March 14.
The initiative ensures that financial limitations do not hinder deserving students from earning a college degree, Lacson stressed.
NU Bacolod, the 11th branch and first National University campus outside of Luzon, was officially inaugurated Sept. 18 last year. It initially offered senior high, and four degree programs, including Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accountancy, BS in Psychology, BS in Tourism Management, and BS in Computer Sciences.
From the 495 pioneering students, Ermita had said they expect the population to grow as more degree programs are offered in the coming years. “We hope to serve more students from towns and cities of Negros.”
Meanwhile, the MOA signing was witnessed by Negros Occidental Board Member Rita Gatuslao, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education, NU Bacolod academic director Ryan Joy Dizon, Capitol Scholarship Program head Karen Dinsay, and other NU Bacolod executives. ||
