Capitol distributes cash incentives to Palarong Pambansa medalists

Athletes from  Negros Occidental, who are medalists in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa held recently in Cebu City, received a total of P901,000 in cash incentives  during the recognition and awarding rites held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City on Thursday, July 25.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, who led the distribution of cash incentives, congratulated the athletes for a job well done.

Negrense athletes won 31 gold, 34 silver, and 22 bronze medals in the amateur national meet organized by the Department of Education.

The gold medalist got P5,000; silver medalist, P4,000; and bronze medalist, P3,000.

Distributed were P224,000 for medalists in the elementary division; P581,000 for secondary level; and P96,000 for para-games.

Lacson said the Palarong Pambansa in Cebu could be the last year of Negros Occidental’s participation in Team Western Visayas, with the establishment of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

The newly-formed NIR is composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.

“Under the NIR, we will be competing with two other provinces in the regional meet. Let’s prepare to also dominate NIR,” Lacson said. | GB
