The City of Cadiz in Negros Occidental is launching its 50th Dinagsa Festival on Friday, Jan. 12 to kick off the festivities that will run for 17 days.
It will start at 3:30 p.m. with a motorcade around the northern Negros city’s poblacion to be followed by the official launch led by Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. at the grandstand.
Simultaneously, the Fiesta Fair along San Juan St., where local produce will be showcased and sold, will also open.
The presentation of 10 candidates vying for this year’s Dinagsa Queen crown will follow.
At 7 p.m., the Patikanay “Neon” Drumbeating Competition will take center stage to be followed by a street party.
The evening will be capped by a grand fireworks display.
Escalante invited everyone to come and feel the “vibes” of the city’s Golden Dinagsa.
“This is just the beginning and we promise to showcase more fantastic events in the coming days,” the mayor said.
The Golden Dinagsa will also be highlighted by various sporting events, including the “Palumba Bugsay”, and “Paralympiada” for children with special needs.
“Paralympiada is our simple way to honor our patron saint, Senor Santo de Cadiz thus, it has a special place in our hearts,” Escalante said.
A province-wide painting competition, open to all professional and amateur artists in Negros Occidental, is slated on Jan. 20.
A P100,000 cash prize awaits the grand winner.
The Dinagsa’s Sinaot Cadiznon Street Dance Competition and the much-awaited “lamhitanay sa dalan” will be held on the final day on Jan. 28. ||
