The BIR Revenue District No. 77 will hold its 2024 Tax Campaign Kickoff this afternoon, March 11, at the SM City Bacolod activity center.

Revenue District officer Linda Baunto said the tax campaign kickoff “is a major event in the Bureau that officially commences its tax campaign activities for the year.”

This year’s tax campaign theme, “Sa Tamang Buwis, Pag-asenso’y mabilis”, aims to seek the support of taxpayers in generating funds for the country’s economic recovery and development, through timely payment of correct taxes, Baunto added.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in Proclamation No. 486 dated March 1 this year, declared February of every year as Tax Awareness Month, and directed the BIR to lead, coordinate, and supervise its observance, as well as identify the programs, activities, and projects for the celebration.

“There is a need to promote and enhance the awareness of Filipinos on tax laws, rules and regulations in order to improve the nation’s tax collection and enhance the trust of the general public in the integrity of the country’s tax administration system,” Marcos said.

Taxation is crucial for nation-building as it allows the government to promote the welfare of citizens, sustain essential economic and development programs, and push the country towards strong economic recovery, the proclamation stressed.

It added that BIR, as the premier revenue-generating agency of the country, needs all the support it can get from sectors of society in disseminating information on the various requirements of taxation, particularly on taxpayer registration, filing of tax returns, and payment of taxes. | CGC
