Team Bologz with the kids of Murcia during their gift-giving activity

What started out as an early morning fun ride on their bicycles turned into a challenging hobby for a group of bikers, who eventually found themselves at the doorsteps of random families at the countrysides sharing goodies to them this Christmas Season.

“Team Bologz”, a name coined by group member, Engr. Jerry Peñafiel, is a group of biking enthusiasts led by Rev. Arnel Macitas of Bacolod Bethany Church.

Weekends are spent mostly riding through the off-road trails of Murcia, Talisay City and the Brgys. of Granada and Alangilan in Bacolod City.

“Riding through the trails of the countryside is such a joy.  Children and elders alike are so polite and very welcoming to bikers, even as we seem to invade their simple and quiet living,” says member Atty. Irene Dilig, who rides with her husband, Randy.

This diverse group of bikers, from senior citizen Ed Seralde to senior high school student, Jance Alojamiento, set out on Saturday, Dec. 19, to share some goodies to random families along their chosen route – town of Murcia (Canlaon View – Hda. Binitin-Balabag) to Granada in Bacolod City (Sto. Rosario-Pahuan).

Since baskets of gifts would be impossible to carry on their bikes while navigating downhill and uphill climbs, the group opted to share candies, chocolates and school supplies to the kids and coffee, milk and cookies to older people.

With other members Dr. Adrian Seralde, Cyril John Alojamiento, Kharla Tulog and Jojiemar Tulog, Rev. Macitas and the Dilig couple might just make the gift-giving activity a regular “stop” on their early morning rides.

After all, the group believes that they experience the blessings of the birth of Christ everyday, and not just on Christmas Day. — NAB
