Benitez tests positive for COVID

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez said Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

“I feel okay but with mild symptoms,” Benitez said in a statement, adding he learned that he got infected when he had himself tested upon arrival in Manila, for a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Rest assured that all day-to-day task of the City would continue to function well, while I am working from home,” the mayor stressed as he reminded Bacolodnons to stay safe since the coronavirus is still around.

Benitez, Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya, several councilors, and barangay captains were in Japan over the weekend.

The Public Information Office said that Benitez encouraged those with him during his official leave to also get tested.

Councilor Celia Flor, who was with the mayor, said she tested negative.

The others who joined Benitez’s trip are councilors Simple Distrito, Thaddy Sayson, Kalaw Puentevella, Al Victor Espino, Jayson Villarosa, Vladimir Gonzalez, and Pao Sy, and barangay captains Rosinie Distrito, Itik Talimodao, Noli Villarosa, Rodney Carmona, Donnie Dela Vega, JR Alcantara, Joemarie Biasca, Elmer Villanueva, Wowie Orola, Karl Magno, and Lope Ledesma, among others./CGC
