Deputy Speaker Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has urged the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to expedite the release of financial assistance under the Tulong Dunong Program, saying students can no longer afford further delays.
Benitez, who represents the Lone District of Bacolod City, said he raised the concern with CHED regarding the delayed payout of the program, which provides financial assistance to students.
He added that CHED had explained that while the funds can already be obligated, their disbursement has been delayed due to the lack of available cash from DBM.
“I understand the process, but behind every delay is a student who may struggle to stay in school,” Benitez said.
In a statement, the lawmaker stressed that the continued delay could place additional financial pressure on students and their families, particularly those relying on government assistance to continue their education.
“DBM, we need the funds released. CHED, let’s get the assistance to our students,” Benitez said.
He assured the public that he would continue to raise questions and follow up on the status of the funds until the assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries. | GPB
