Policemen seized P5.44 million worth of suspected shabu from an arrested drug personality at Purok Narra Baybay, Barangay 8 in Bacolod City on Saturday night.
The arrest of alias “Rico” by operatives of Police Station 2 yielded an estimated 800 grams of shabu priced at P6,800 per gram.
In a statement, PCol. Joeresty Coronica, director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), attributed the successful anti-drug operation to the proactive intelligence efforts and cooperation of the community.
“This operation is part of our comprehensive security measures to protect the MassKara Festival and maintain public safety,” Coronica said.
Three days earlier, the BCPO also arrested three siblings in Barangay Mansilingan, which yielded about 300 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1.3 million.
The street prevailing price of shabu was reported by the police to have risen from P6,000 to P10,000 per gram.
From Oct. 17 to 19, the police also seized more than P10 million worth of shabu from three arrested drug suspects in Barangays 7, 12 and 27, which yielded more than 1.5 kilos of suspected shabu.
Coronica said that the zero-tolerance stance of the police reflects the BCPO’s dedication to get rid of illegal drugs in Bacolod City, and ensure a secure MassKara Festival for everyone. | GB
