Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez ordered the Bacolod City Police Office yesterday to investigate thoroughly the death of 15-year-old student Pearl Joy Galve.

The Grade 10 student of Sum-ag National High School in Bacolod City was found dead inside a sugarcane plantation in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on Aug. 13.

Galve was reported missing on July 29.

Benitez, who condemned the senseless death of the minor, said such “heinous act is a grave injustice.”

“We will not rest until they are held accountable,” he added.

Benitez also urged teenagers to exercise caution when interacting with others, especially persons they do not know well.

“Always inform your family members or any trusted adult of your whereabouts,” the mayor said.

In an interview with RMN DYHB, PCapt. Michael Tuburan, chief of Police Station 9, said he believes that no abduction had taken place on the case of Galve.

Tuburan said that initial investigation indicated that the victim may have voluntarily gone with the suspect. | GB
