Officials of the 18 barangays in San Carlos City participated in the two-day Barangay Solid Waste Management Action Planning Workshop, facilitated by the City Environment Management Office (CEMO).

The workshop that started Monday gathered punong barangays, kagawads on environment, and barangay secretaries to strengthen the city’s solid waste management efforts by equipping participants with strategies and action plans for effective implementation in their respective communities.

Resource persons included Analou Gomo of CEMO and agriculture technician II Rodolfo Sapalo Jr. from the Provincial Environment Management Office, who discussed sustainable waste management practices and local environmental policies.

CENRO I Engr. Loreto Sanchez said the collaboration between the city and the barangays is vital in managing waste – from ridges to reefs – adding that San Carlos City has been recognized for its best practices in environmental initiatives, attracting visitors, who seek to replicate these programs.

He added that the recent sighting of a thresher shark off Sipaway Island, an endangered species, signifies the city’s effective environmental management as marine life continues to thrive in its waters, the city said in a press release Oct. 27.

Councilor Arthur Batomalaque, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Environment, and IEC team leader Marietta Lomocso also led the launch of the Barangay Seal of Good Environmental Governance Year V (2025) to recognize barangays with outstanding environmental initiatives. ||
