Six unidentified men shot to death a village councilman in Barangay Tambad, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Nov. 3.

The victim, an active member of an anti-communist organization, succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Cauayan Health Center, police report showed.

Investigators recovered from the scene of the crime three fired cartridges and a deformed slug of M16 assault rifle.

Initial investigation showed six unidentified armed men went to the residence of the victim.

When he went out, the perpetrators ordered him to sit down and fired at him several times without any provocation.

PLt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region, said a special investigation task group was created to probe the killing of the village official.

Last month, the chairwoman of Purok 5 (Zone 5) in Barangay Lina-on, Cauayan was also gunned down by five armed men outside her home.

Her assassination was claimed by the New People’s Army, who accused her as a military informant. | GB
