The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Negros Island Region (RDRRMC-NIR) will soon institutionalize the issuance of “Bakwit Card” to residents within the permanent danger zone of Kanlaon Volcano.

This was approved by the RDRRMC-NIR during its recent first full council meeting, Donato Sermeno III, regional director of Office of Civil Defense (OCD-NIR), said yesterday.

The “Bakwit Card” contains the name of the head of the family and the members, evacuation center where they will be staying, and what to bring during the evacuation, in case Kanlaon Volcano erupts.

“This will ensure the efficient and fast evacuation of the affected residents,” Sermeno said.

Alert Level 2 (increasing unrest) remains hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano.

More than 100 families, who are residents within   the four-kilometer danger zone in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, are still occupying the evacuation centers.

The OCD-NIR called on residents of surrounding communities to continue their vigilance in response to the continuing restiveness of the volcano. | GB
