At least 15 fire-prone barangays in this highly-urbanized city received fire safety equipment from private sector-partners under the “Adopt a Red Zone Program” of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Supt. Jenny Mae Masip, fire marshal of the Bacolod City Fire Station, said in a statement Oct. 7 that the partners who responded to the call are those with businesses located along the “red zones”.

Red zones refer to thickly-populated areas with narrow pathways that make it difficult for firefighters and their fire trucks to enter.

More than 300 “red zone” areas have been identified across Bacolod during the city’s fire response summit in March this year.

During the turnover Oct. 6, representatives from the selected barangays received 72 fire extinguishers and six fire hoses from 22 private-sector partners.

The recipients are barangays 4, 8, 12, 17, 20, 26, 27, 33, 40, Taculing, Mansilingan, Alijis, Villamonte, Handumanan, and Estefania.

Among the private sector-partners are SM City Bacolod, Vallacar Transit Inc., Bacolod Oxygen Acetylene Gas Corp., KJ Fairmart, Seda Capitol Central, Landers Superstore, Ava Construction, and CM & Sons Food Productions Inc.

“The adopted barangays can now enhance their capacity for immediate fire suppression and emergency preparedness,” Masip said. | PNA
