Therese Mae Ortaliz of Bacolod City won the first-ever Negros Occidental painting competition in line with the Golden Dinagsa Festival celebration, and took home P100,000 in grand prize Jan. 20.
The awarding ceremony, held at the Cadiz City Arena, was attended by Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. and other city officials and guests.
Vicky Gasper of Silay City bagged P50,000 as second placer, Allen Descalsota and Jonafer Chavez, both of Cadiz City, won the third and fourth spots, while Nestor Angelo Dequiña of Sagay City was in fifth place.
“The vibrant tapestry unfolds as the hands and imaginations of artists from all over Negros come together to showcase their masterpieces,” the city said in a press release, adding that the finalists included Psyche Amor Distor of Valladolid, Annalyn Trespicio of La Castellana, John Ryan Locsin of Bacolod City, John Steve Gabana of Cadiz City, and Jessa Marie Gustilo, also of La Castellana.
The Mayor Choice Awards, on the other hand, were entries from Rommel Clavecillas, Julius Anasca, Abs Andrew Dela Peña, Ardien Aspan, Johanna Peña, and Marlon Domino, all from Bacolod; Salvador Escalante III, Raven Ejecutor, John Philip Carpin, Nicolas Mahipos, and Hope Muralla, all of Cadiz, and Renato Dayon of Silay, Gylene Meg Galilea of Sipalay, Jojo Hidalgo of Manapla, Arceo Aposoga Jr. of Calatrava, and Jessa Marie Gustilo of La Castellana.
The judges were Roselle Reig, Hill Benitez, Ramoncito Doplon, Cezar Apro, and Aladin Antiqueno. | Bilis Cadiz photos
