The Civil Defense Western Visayas said that Bacolod City successfully executed the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) June 28 as pilot area for the region.
Office of Civil Defense 6 director Raul Fernandez lauded the efforts of all the participants during the activity, which featured the simulation of four distinct earthquake scenarios across key impact areas in the city, including La Consolacion College Bacolod, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod, Rizal Elementary School, and Purok Violeta in Barangay Taculing.
“The successful execution of the drill underscores our commitment to disaster resilience. It is through these collaborative efforts that we can effectively mitigate the impacts of natural disasters and protect our communities,” Fernandez said in a statement June 29.
He expressed his gratitude to all participants, as he highlighted the importance of these drills in fostering a culture of safety and preparedness.
The NSED in Bacolod was participated in by public and private stakeholders, as well as volunteer groups, demonstrating a united effort in enhancing the city’s earthquake preparedness.
Participants included city and barangay employees, educational institutions, private businesses, and community organizations, all working together to ensure the safety and readiness of their respective sectors.
They were evaluated by diverse groups of experts in incident command system, which relayed their observations during the post-activity evaluation, the OCD said.
The NSED is part of the nationwide initiative to enhance disaster preparedness and resilience across the Philippines, it added. ||
