Unauthorized operations of motorcycles-for-hire in Bacolod City should stop as these unregulated services may result in loss of revenue for the local government and weaken the enforcement of transport and safety regulations, Councilor Dindo Ramos said.
Ramos, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Transportation and Traffic, has asked the police, Land Transportation Office, the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department, and the City Legal Office to investigate the reported operations of motorcycles-for-hire without the required franchise and business permit, and to take legal actions, if warranted.
He said he received reports of motorcycles-for-hire operating in Bacolod without the necessary franchise and business permit, in violation of the city’s ordinances on anti-colorum and anti-riding-in-tandem.
“There is need for a thorough investigation to determine the extent of these alleged illegal operations, and to ensure that appropriate enforcement actions are undertaken,” Ramos said in his resolution approved by the SP.
He also stressed that the continued operation of these illegal services undermines lawful operators, compromises public safety, and erodes regulatory enforcement. | CGC
