The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod unanimously approved April 23 a resolution expressing deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the family, friends, and admirers of National Artist Nora Aunor on her untimely passing.
Aunor, or Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in real life, and fondly known as “Ate Guy” or the “Superstar” of Philippine cinema, is one of the greatest Filipino actresses of all time, the resolution, authored by Councilor Em Ang, said.
“Her splendid career spanning 50 years has left an indelible mark on the country’s entertainment industry with her remarkable talent, perseverance, and dedication to her craft,” Ang, chairperson of the SP Committee on History, Art, and Culture, added.
Aunor’s body of work, comprising over 170 films, numerous stage productions, music records and concerts, both here and abroad, showcased her versatility and range as a performer, earning her numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022, the resolution stressed.
“(Let) a copy of this resolution be furnished to the Aunor family, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines as a token of the SP’s respect and appreciation for the life and legacy of such remarkable artist,” it added.
Aunor passed away April 16 at age 71 due to acute respiratory failure following an angioplasty. She was given full military honors and was laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City April 22. ||
